Stats Can figures show Squamish grew nearly 14 per per cent since 2011
Squamish was the sixth fastest growing community in Canada since 2011 with a population of between 10,000 and 100,000 people, according to Statistics Canada’s 2016 census data released Wednesday.
Squamish grew 13.8 percent from 17,158 in the 2011 census to 19,893 in 2016.
The 2016 census also found Squamish residents inhabit 7,377 “private dwellings,” meaning a home with a private entrance.
Sylvan Lake, Alta. took top spot for growth, growing 19.6 per cent since 2011 to 15,302 residents in 2016.
For municipalities with a population over 5,000 people, Squamish came in 22nd in all of Canada.
